Abstract

All over the world, students struggle in school. They feel lost in the crowd and find it hard to ask for help in the classroom. There is a lot of competition to see which student can get the answer first or who understands concepts more quickly. Montessori schools do just the opposite. The Montessori curriculum was carefully created by Maria Montessori. She spent years studying children and observing how they thrive and struggle in their academic environments. This thesis highlights how the students are taught from an emotional and educational level. Instead of teaching at the class, they teach the individual, ensuring each student gets the attention they need to thrive socially and academically. I would like to make Montessori a more mainstream option for young students who are looking for a more hands-on learning approach to their academics. After reading my thesis, the reader will have a deeper understanding of what makes Montessori so unique and the pros and cons of each individual aspect regarding the curriculum and how it is manifested in the classroom.
